Bathroom Tile Design
Bathroom Tile Design
When most people think of the word modern they think of a forward friendly type of style - revolutionary if you will. They also tend to think of darker colors, a lot of "silvery" hardware like platinum and nickel. They also might think of more natural stone options that are modern and up to date, trendy like slate, brick or stones. If you like the modern bathroom look, but you don’t know where to start in terms of the tile - which is essentially the foundation of the whole bathroom, take a look at some of the ideas below. Maybe you will be able to steal a few ideas or come up with a few of your own.
Sliced Charcoal Black, White and Gray Pebble Tile
The thin little "slices" of pebbles, come in various colors. But, since we are talking about modern bathroom remodeling, we will most likely be talking about subdued or darker colors, which is why I chose the black and white colors along with gray. These pebble tiles are handpicked; they are various sizes and shapes so it doesn’t look "perfect" which is honestly just what you want in something like this. The pebbles are tacked to a mesh backing. Instead of just using a clear caulking or tile sealer for this one, I would suggest a stark white sealer - it goes better with the tiles. If you really want to match it up, consider adding a mosaic tile pattern in your shower or even on the outer part of the tub, using the same colors; black, white and gray.
Mosaic Backsplash
When most people hear the word backsplash, they automatically think of a kitchen. But, you can use these focal features in other rooms, such as the bathroom. In this case, we are still going to consider modern colors, but with a flair. One of the things I really like about mosaic tiles is that they come in literally every single shape, color and size. For these ones you would be using silver, white and a few black tiles. The silver and white are the most used colors in this backsplash, with a few black tiles speckled throughout. There is no rhyme or reason, but you can make a design in these tiles using the black, if you want. All the tiles are placed behind the sink, with a mirror in the middle. The design is also carried over to the inside of the shower so that it sort of brings it altogether. Since you would be using silver tiles, this is also a great option for people that are using a lot of silver hardware in their bathroom; faucets, handles/knobs, light fixtures, etc. If you have any questions about backsplash tiles in the bathroom you should contact a bathroom remodeling contractor in Atherton, these contractors are skilled and designing beautiful bathrooms and can build the bathroom of your dreams!
Subway Tile
If you’ve ever been to a subway before, you know that they aren’t really trendy, clean or peaceful. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t make it your own and put it in your bathroom. That’s right, subway tiles, as they are called, are becoming really popular this year. In the other two options, you saw black, white, silver and gray being used. That’s all good and fine, but since this is going to be a pattern placed in a shower, you want a different color, maybe something that bounces back reflections to make the bathroom larger than it appears. How about a glass cobalt grey subway tile? The cobalt in this instance is somewhat if a greenish gray color. Definitely not for everyone, but it’s a really cool color and since its glass it has a certain sense of reflection to it, which WILL make your bathroom or even the shower itself appear larger than it really is. Pair with this white, off white and gray colors such as a speckled gray and white shower floor, white marble with gray accented tub, etc. This cobalt color goes great with silver hardware as well as brushed silver hardware. By the way, the grout in between the subway tiles is a soft gray color.
Something Different
Okay, so not all modern bathrooms are going to have black, white, gray and cobalt. Sometimes you might want something a little different, but something that is still modern. In this case, I urge you to try some color. Not purple or blue or green, but brown and black or brown and gray. Brown is an earth tone, which goes really well in a bathroom. These tiles are sort of chunky in size, but that’s actually better on your part because that means less finicky tiles, less labor if you have a bathroom remodeling contractor install them, and they will cost less (usually) because the larger the tiles the more space it covers i.e.; you need less tiles! If you are going to use any brown and black or brown and gray, I really love the look of Horizons Grey Matte Field Tile and Horizons Brown Matte Field Tile or alternatively, Horizons Brown Matte Field Tile and Horizons Black Matte Field Tile. These come in 12" X 24" X 3/8". The brown in this instance isn’t just the same old same old brown; it has a tinge of copper in it. Use these colors randomly in the shower stall or bathroom around the stall. Don’t make a design with these tiles, just lay them randomly. Consider adding a chocolate brown vanity, white countertop with sink, a nice floor tile to compliment the walls and silver hardware.
