How to Increase Privacy in the Bathroom
Bathroom Window Design
Creating privacy, while still allowing light to come into your bathroom, might seem like a difficult feat. Thankfully there are many resources that can help you get ideas; while also still being able to be designer friendly. You might think that you don’t have a lot of options when it comes to creating extra privacy in a bathroom that has one or more windows, but think again. Maybe all you need is a few creative ideas like these ones below.
Privacy Screens
Privacy screens usually have slats in between the wood or whatever materials they use in the screens. The slats, however, tend to be close enough together to create privacy, but far enough apart (and enough of the slats) to allow for light to come in the window. Privacy screens can be installed quite easily when it comes to your bathroom design in Atherton. Usually you can find these pieces already cut into the length, width and height you need them to be in. They do primarily come in wood, but you can find a few different options depending on what you want and what your style is. Also, if you choose something like wood, which tends to be very versatile, you will see that these privacy screens come in quite a few different woods and colors. But, if worse comes to worse and you find a screen that fits your budget and your window, but you don’t like the color of it, you can always strip away the paint or stain and paint it/stain it the color you want.
Patterned Privacy
Like the above option, these are usually one piece "screens" but they are patterned rather than just vertical or horizontal wood slats. You can find something that really speaks to your style such as geometric patterns if you like a more art deco or modern look or flowered patterns if you like something a little traditional. These also come in various colors, sizes, styles and materials, but wood and metal seem to be the most popular. These will also create little shadowy shapes of dark and light in your bathroom, which could be pretty cool depending on the pattern you choose. These fit right into the window frame.
Clear and Frosted Panels
If you have a window that is pretty big, chances are this is going to be a good option. These are actual panels; you would be removing the glass from the frame, and having these installed as windows. If you have a tall wide window for instance, you could make the bottom two layers be frosted glass for privacy, and allow the top layer to be clear to still let light in. The frosted panels are primarily white, but you can find manufactures that add little hues of color into the frosted glass such as rose pink. Since these are actual windows and you do need them to be secure, they come in a metal frame. The biggest disadvantage to this type of window is that they cannot be opened. If worse comes to worse you could install a top layer panel of 2-3+ windows and make the top layer open out windows if you really want them to open.
Privacy Films
These are for people that are really on a budget! They are not nearly as nice as the above options, but if you are on a budget and still need privacy, these are the answer for you. Privacy films, as the name states, is a film you put on your window. Fortunately they come in a lot of different sizes, styles and designs. You can find retro dots where the dots and swirls are in white and the film is frosted damask which has a very Victorian era style to it, stained glass films - these look exactly like an expensive stained glass window, for a fraction of the price, and more. The usual size is 36" W x 48" H, but you can find them bigger. If you need them smaller, they are very easy to cut. I have seen these in home decorating and hardware stores for as low as $12 a pack for one window and for as much as $18 a pack for one window.
