Luxury Bathroom Design
TInvesting in a bathroom might
seem like a waste of money, but if you use your bathroom as much as the average
resident in the US, you will
really begin to understand how this is less about extravagance and more about
comfort, style and luxuriousness! If you
want a few luxury ideas for bathroom remodeling in the Bay Area look no
further than the ideas below. Everything
in this list is considered luxurious, so you will be seeing a lot of natural
stone like marble, gold and silver fixtures and gold and silver for the
hardware on things like cabinets.
Showers
When I think of extravagance and showers I think of two types of showers; steam showers and a rain fall showerhead just as far as the actual water goes. Rain fall showerheads tend to be bigger in size, but they can be installed by you and are easy enough to do so. There are two types of rain showers, the kind I just mentioned with the showerhead, and a type where the ceiling in the shower actually spouts out the water. It’s usually a square contraption that is installed into the ceiling. This might be a little more complex and you might need someone that offers bathroom remodeling services. A steam shower on the other hand is considered a specialty. It’s sort of like having a facial over your entire body - very invigorating, but also a little more on the expensive side than something like a regular shower head. Even if you do want a regular showerhead, consider adding a few design concepts such as large-scale porcelain tile walls, along with pebble shower floor and glass mosaic tiles for one idea. The great thing about a shower "enclosure" is that you can make it as big or small as you want and you can do so with whatever designs, materials and lighting that you want.
Flooring
Most people that have a luxurious bathroom will tell you that their most favorite attribute is the floor and the reason is because it’s heated. This does take a little more work but if you live in a location where the mornings tend to be cold and the floor is something like natural stone or wood and is cold in the morning, this might be a good option for you. Essentially they use pipes underneath the flooring that is usually connected to an individual thermostat on the wall just for the flooring. Then, hot water or steam is pumped under the flooring to make the floor warmer. You can’t do this with every single flooring material out there, but it’s safe with all the most common materials. Another thing to consider when it comes to your bathroom is the actual flooring material itself. Marble is fantastic, but usually used as accent - it tends to become slippery when wet or steamy. Wood is also common and can get pretty extravagant, just make sure you use a sealant so moisture doesn’t seep into the fibers of the wood - this will create rotting and warping down the line.
Sinks
Like with showers, sinks can be as traditional or modern as you want them to be. If you want a regular sink, white porcelain, with silver or gold hardware - so be it. But, if you have money to spend, and you want to make the bathroom of your dreams, why not try something a little out of your comfort zone? When it comes to sinks, there are all sorts of options. But, here are a few to consider:
- Marlik Rectangular: This is sort of an oddly shaped sink, but still very cool and not something you will see a lot of. It’s by a brand called Marlik which features a non-porous single washbasin - it’s rectangular in design, but somewhat geometrically cut as well. It comes in various colors. Literally any color you can think of, this sink comes in that choice; yellow, off white, white, blue, gray, black, pink, red, green, etc. etc.
- Water Bowl: This is a porcelain cut bowl that is circular, but again, has some geometric cuts to it. This sits on top of the counter, rather than the Malik option above which is an under mount. This is a cool option because it’s very different, but you can also find ways to customize these. A lot of the sink stores on and offline will allow you to create different ways to make this even more functional. For instance, you can add a lip with a crease inside the lip to hang towels on. These also come in various colors and while porcelain is the most common option, people use all sorts of materials such as bamboo, marble, natural stone and more. It really depends on the look you are going for! Personally, I have a more modern taste, but I love this in a rustic stone material!
